A Solution for Anxiety

Booze and pills and powders, you can choose your medicine.

This phrase has circulated for some years. In most cases having nothing to do with substance abuse. In a broader sense there is some truth to this phrase. That is if one leaves, the whole “Booze and pill and powders” out of the equation. I am reminded of another great sage who stated “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things”. It seems that human nature is predisposed to accentuating the negative.  To be quite honest it probably is the greatest defense mechanism for survival. The ability to analyze difficult situations and problem solve it, is a real blessing. On the other hand how does one maintain a positive attitude in a world of overwhelming negativity? While is it good to be a pragmatist, it is much more noble to practice the power of positive observation.

I committed some time back to avoid complaining. First, for the reason that no one wants to be around a complainer. Second, complaining never solved a single problem in my life. I must be transparent and say, I have failed at this many times. If you don’t believe me just ask my wife or staff. As difficult of a challenge it has been to refocus my energy and retrain my thoughts, this has been the most rewarding step to bringing peace in my life.

A solution for anxiety.

  1. Take a moment and analyze yourself. Has any of your worry and negative thinking ever solved a single problem?
  2. Make a personal commitment to not obsess on negative things.
  3. Start each day before getting out of bed and thanking God for the start of a new day.
  4. Think before you speak. Prepare your response to others in a positive manner.
  5. Get an accountable partner. Someone close to you who can help remind you during those times of negativity.

You are going to quickly discover that the small effort will yield great result. Remember, practice makes perfect. Keep it up no matter how many times you fail. You can choose your own medicine. Depending on your choice, you will find peace, joy and happiness or negativity, anxiety, and depression. The choices we make determines the journey. When we carefully consider what we consume by our thoughts and actions, we will realize that these thought and actions can be powerful elixirs. Either they will intoxicate us and bend our judgment or bring healing to the soul. So, “choose you medicine” wisely and find the solution to your anxiety.
