The Captive Child: Rabbi Avraham
The Hebrew Torah divides humanity into different categories of peoples.
All people are considered to descend from the seventy descendants of Noah listed in the book of Genesis.
Alone among Noah’s descendants in his time, the patriarch Abraham separated himself from the seventy nations, who had fallen into paganism, submitting himself to HaShem, who made him the founder the people of Israel through his offspring from his son Isaac and his grandson Jacob, who was also called Israel. Jacob’s twelve sons, the “Children of Israel”, were the founding fathers of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, known throughout the Hebrew Bible as the Children of Israel.
