Matot: Part One
In Matot part one we will examine the usefulness and dangers of making a vow. How a vow can be negated and the circumstance which the vow must me followed through. As a medicine against this desensitization, the Torah asks us to think hard about the words we bring forth from our own mouths, and particularly the personal commitments we make. While we often focus on language as the means of communication with each other, with ourselves and with G-d, the concept of the vow is one where we use our G-d-given gift of speech to elevate ourselves spiritually.
